Amit Shah to be the Chief Guest at the anniversary celebrations of RAF

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be attending the 27th-anniversary celebrations of anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF), as the Chief Guest of the function.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be attending the 27th-anniversary celebrations of anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF), which is also known as the zero-response time force, of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Ahmedabad. He will attend the ceremony as the Chief Guest of the function. He will also be felicitating 20 Gallantry medal winners of the CRPF during the ceremony.

According to an official release, "Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is observing the 27th Anniversary of its anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF) this year. To mark the occasion, its anniversary parade has been arranged at the location of the 100 Battalion of RAF at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) tomorrow, the 30th September 2019. Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest."

About RAF

Commanded by Inspector General of Police (IGP) and headquartered in New Delhi, RAF was raised as a specialised riot-control wing of CRPF on the 7 October 1992. This anti-riot, 15 battalion-strong force has proved its mettle on many occasions. Even though its functions are to deal with riots, riot-like situations, crowd control, rescue and relief operations, and related unrest, RAF has made several other contributions. Apart from setting its foot strongly on the riot control front but has also managed to win accolades overseas in its UN peacekeeping missions in Haiti, Kosovo and Liberia. As the anti-riot force, RAF specialises in quick reflexes in riot situations with the use of non-lethal equipment.

RAF's active engagement with its mandate earned it an identity of its own on October 7, 2003, when it was presented with the coveted Presidential Colours. The organization is split into different component, the smallest being a team. They have trained both male and female personnel and according to the official CRPF website, one team, that includes trained female personnel is solely dedicated to deal efficiently with situations involving the women demonstrators.
