The duo has been identified as Charanjit Singh and Sanjiv Kumar, residents of Fazilka area of Punjab. Charanjit was shot dead at the spot while Sanjiv has been referred to Srinagar in critical condition.
“At around 7.40 PM today, we received information that terrorists have attacked two civilians in Trenz village. Upon receiving the information, Police teams rushed to the spot where one individual was found lying dead in pool of blood while other was in critical condition. They were shot in the abdomen and right arm,” a senior police official told Republic Media Network.
Apple trade being targeted
Earlier in the day, a non-local civilian was shot dead by terrorists in broad daylight at around 1:30 PM. The victim, namely Sethi Kumar Sagar, was from Chhattisgarh and was working as a laborer in a brick kiln in South Kashmir’s Pulwama. A senior police official told Republic Media Network that after facing a setback in early morning encounter in Anantnag in which three terrorists were gunned down by security forces, terrorists are now trying to create a fear among the local Kashmiris as well as those who have come from other parts of the country for Apple trade.
“Terror outfits operating in Kashmir valley are feeling that they are being sidelined by locals and there calls to boycott trade are being defied. Now these terrorists have resorted to target civilians and this shows their desperation.”, Official said.
Postpaid calling restored
On 12th October, the government had decided to restore postpaid calling facility in all ten districts of Kashmir Valley and after that, four major terror incidents aimed at targeting civilians have been reported in the valley. Hours after Government's decision, terrorists hurled grenade in a high-security zone of Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar while on 14th October, a truck driver Sharief Khan was killed by terrorists in the Shopian district.
