Arvind Kejriwal announces beautification project for New Delhi streets
New Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced plans to beautify New Delhi streets, including redesigning of footpaths & drainage system to facilitate water harvesting

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed a press conference on Tuesday where he said that the Delhi Government has started work on giving the streets of New Delhi a facelift and the beautification of the city. CM Kejriwal said that the resideign work will be done is such a way that it matches 'international standard'. The work will be done on trial bases for now.
Street makeovers
Nine streets of Delhi, with the length of 45 kilometers, will be redesigned. The project will be a pilot basis and that the work order of one project is already danctioned whereas two more work orders will be sanctioned on Tuesday while the orders of the remaining work orders will be sanctioned by November end. The work is scheduled to be completed in a year's time. The project will make the streets prettier, solve the traffic issues and hopefully also reduce the number of accidents in the streets. Various junctions across the city will be redesigned as well. The roads that will be redesigned are: Wazirpur depot crossing-Rithala metro station, Britania chowk-Outer ring road Pitampura West Enclave, Vikas Marg (Laxmi Nagar Chungi to Karkari Mor), AIIMS to Ashram, Motinagar T point to Pusa Road, Narwana Road, Mayapuri to Moti Bagh, Nigambodh Ghat road near Kashmiri Gate. Ambedkar Nagar to Defence Colony flyover. The cost of the project is likely to be Rs. 8-10 crores per kilometer.
Beautifications
"Firstly, all the bottlenecks in these streets will be removed and the spaces will be used in the most efficient manner. The footpaths will be widened and will be of a minimum of five feet in length and an average of 10 feet. The footpaths will also be reconstructed and redesigned in a manner that will benefit handicapped individuals." Kejriwal added that all footpaths will be of a standard size. There will be spaces to grow trees in the capital. Street furniture, dustbins will be introduced as well.
The State Government will also be making stands for auto and e-rickshaws so that there is no traffic congestion because of irregular parking or halts. Kejriwal announced that the water drainage system will also be redesigned and reconstructed in a manner that will facilitate water harvesting.
