Assam Floods: Here's how you can donate to the Chief Minister's relief fund

Large parts of Assam was ravaged after floods submerged 30 of the 33 districts of the state. Following the calamity, the Assam government opened a window for people to donate for the distressed state. 

The worst affected areas are Lakhimpur, Majuli, Kaziranga, Morigaon, Barpeta, and Nalbari. The death toll of people owing to the situation is 15.  Over 50 lakh people have been affected because of the state. The government has set up over 183 relief camp for the people affected by the floods in the state. Over one lakh people are living in the relief camps currently.

Here is how you can donate to the Assam through Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's Relief Fund-

Taking cognisance of the situation PM Modi assured Sonowal of all assistance from the central government in dealing with the situation, an official said.

Sonowal visited flood-hit Nalbari district and the Solmara flood relief camp on Monday.

The floods situation in Assam remains serious as rains still persists in the state. But the MET Regional Center in Guwahati has confirmed that rainfall is gradually decreasing across the state. However, the situation far from being restored to normal.

Wildlife in UNESCO World Heritage Site affected

The Kaziranga National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site has also been severely affected by the floods as 90% of it has been submerged. Rhino habitats in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and Manas National Park have also been inundated with floodwaters. As seen in the video, the wild animals are navigating through the neck-deep water. Twenty-three wild animals have died owing to the floods.

The government has taken measures to resue the wildlife. The speed limit has been set at 20kmph to ensure safe movement of animals. The animals are being shifted to highlands. The forest department has increased its patrolling. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over the phone and discussed the prevailing situation on Monday. Altogether, 4,157 villages are reeling from the impact of the floods that have overrun 1,53,211 hectares of farmland with standing crops, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority had said.
