Bihar Floods: PM Modi speaks to CM Nitish Kumar, assures Centre's help

Incessant rainfall in Bihar has thrown normal life out of gear as people struggle to meet their daily needs. In the midst of this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern over the situation and spoke to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Spoke to Bihar CM @NitishKumar Ji regarding the flood situation in parts of the state. Agencies are working with local administration to assist the affected. Centre stands ready to provide all possible further assistance that may be required."
Casualties Reported
Boats have been pressed into service to evacuate people. Water has also gushed into many power sub-stations and power has to be disconnected to avoid major casualties. In Danapur, on the outskirts of Patna, a one-year-old girl and three women died when a tree fell on an autorickshaw carrying them. Three deaths were reported from Bhabhua, the district headquarters of Kaimur, where continuous rain led to the collapse of two mud houses.
In another shocking incident, a wall collapsed in Bhagalpur on Sunday due to heavy rain. According to Bhagalpur District Magistrate, Pranav Kumar, three persons died when the boundary wall of a temple collapsed in Barari police station area while as many people were buried alive when a house caved in at Khanjarpur area.
Further reports stated that on Sunday, the NDRF teams carried out rescue operations in the low-lying parts of the state capital and rescued over 200 people and moved them to safer places.
Nitish Kumar's Aerial Survey
Understanding the severity of the situation, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday conducted an Aerial Survey to asses the situation. While speaking on the flood situation in parts of Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, 'There has been heavy rainfall in some areas since yesterday & water in Ganga River is rising constantly. But there are proper arrangements and administration is at the spot & making all the efforts to help people. Arrangements are being done to provide drinking water to all. Also, arrangements are being made for community kitchens for the flood-affected people.
