While the state of Bihar is already reeling under flood, Union Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey on Friday chaired an emergency meeting of the doctors. The agenda of the meeting was to deal with the possibility of the spread of diseases due to waterlogging in the state, triggered by heavy rainfall. Doctors from Delhi along with those from Patna AIIMS and the Director of Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences were present in the meeting.
'PM Modi constantly in touch'
Bihar on Thursday initiated fogging in different localities of Patna to prevent the likelihood of epidemics. Routine life has been adversely affected as there is no electricity or water in the houses. People are also suffering due to a shortage of food.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly in touch with the situation in Bihar and has said that help should be provided in every way," Choubey said.
The State authorities and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have so far evacuated over 10,000 citizens from the flood-affected areas in Patna. According to reports, 19 NDRF teams have been sent out for evacuation. Out of the 19 teams, five NDRF teams have been sent to Patna's flood-affected areas.
Orange Alert in Patna
The State Government has issued an Orange alert in Patna for October 3 and 4 over the IMD forecast warning that the area might receive heavy rainfall in the coming days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on October 2 had also issued an orange alert for Patna, Vaishali, Begusarai, and Khagaria district for October 3 and 4, as these areas are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
As the floods continue to cripple routine life in Bihar, at least 55 people have reportedly died in the rain-related incidents in the State, following nonstop downpour. Flood-like situations have been clouding the state capital Patna where houses have been damaged and animals have died due to rains. Houses have also been flooded and several shops have shut down because of the trouble that the floods have caused in the region.
