Earlier in September, Nadda, while speaking about the move, had said scrapping the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 was the 'national commitment' of his party which was fulfilled by the Narendra Modi government. He had also hailed the 'will power' and 'tactics' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
In another statement, he had said that the abrogation of the article will help maintain equality in the nation. He had said that the abrogation of Article 370 would pave the way for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, so far leading lives of second class citizens, to join the mainstream of the nation.
Abrogation of Article 370
On August 5 this year, the Government of India, abrogated Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and went on to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. Subsequently, the state witnessed curfews in the form of a communication blackout that the government introduced to evade any untoward incident. Additionally, various political leaders such as Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were put under detention in order to prevent escalation of any situation that would incite violence, the government had said while talking about the issue.
Apart from speaking about the issue at the seminar, Nadda is also set to meet senior retired officers of the Army and Police at the residence of retired Punjab Police DGP, PC Dogra.
