The Cauvery row is back, opposition party leader MK Stalin calls for all party meeting to discuss on Mekadatu issue where the Karnataka government had decided to construct a new reservoir in Cauvery river.

Everyone expected that there will be a permanent solution for the Cauvery river water dispute case as the supreme court delivered its final verdict to solve the dispute in a way that all the states get benefit and also have ordered that the Cauvery water management authority,an autonomous body will take any decision on Cauvery related matters including water sharing and other developmental projects.

The Karnataka government was very keen since last 3 years to construct a new reservoir in between Cauvery river at a place called Mekadatu at Ramnagara district of Karnataka to store drinking water for the southern district during the summer.

The Karnataka government had also got nod from the central water commission for its pre feasibility Tamil Nadu is now going to prepare its detailed project report for the worth of 5,912 crores with the time frame.

This was conveyed to the Tamil Nadu government on November 22nd and the chief minister Edapadi K Palaniswami immediately wrote a letter to prime minister, seeking intervention in this matter.

The legal experts from the state government express their concern that how can the central water commission give nod to the project when there is an authority which is dealing with the Cauvery river as ordered by the supreme court, They say that the Cauvery water management authority is the body prescribed by the SC to take decision on water sharing and they should approve any such projects across the river & not the central water commission.

However the chainman of Cauvery management authority Masood Hussain had told that "Its not approval to the project,Its a go ahead clearance to prepare a report subject to certain conditions." He also told that the concerns of the Tamil Nadu government will also be taken into account before taking any final call.

While this is the situation, DMK president Opposition leader MK Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on November 29 to discuss Mekedatu Reservoir issue.

The all-party meeting to be convened at 10:30 am at the DMK party headquarters where all its friendly parties like VCK, CPI, CPM, IUML, Congress will most likely participate.

The opposition parties had questioned how can the central water commission approve the per feasibility report and give clearance for DPR without consulting with the Cauvery management authority & without taking the Tamil Nadu government's consent on this.

The leaders from the ruling AIADMK says that DMK is trying to score out of nothing with this issue and he is just  trying to politicise by calling an all-party meeting, also told that the chief minister Edapadi Palaniswami had already written a letter to PM & the state government will continue its stand against the construction of any projects across the Cauvery river and  make sure the Mekadatu reservoir will be stalled.
