'This is how language evolves', says Netizens as Oxford English Dictionary adds a new Indian word 'Chuddies', to expand its regional vocabulary, thanks to the catchphrase 'Kiss my chuddies', used by Sanjeev Bhaskar in 'Goodness Gracious Me'.
Who is Sanjeev Bhaskar? Sanjeev Bhaskar, OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) is a British comedian, actor and broadcaster, best known for his work in the BBC Two sketch comedy series 'Goodness Gracious Me' and star of the sitcom 'The Kumars at No. 42'.
Sanjeev Bhaskar wrote on Twitter: "This has got to be worth a CBE hasn't it? I came up with 'Kiss My Chuddies' when doing comedy stuff w/ @thenitinsawhney & then used it in #GoodnessGraciousMe Oxford English Dictionary adds new entries: chuddies, jibbons and fantoosh"
The dictionary says that the word is partly from Hindi and Punjabi and was first used in Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine in 1858. The word 'chuddies' according to the Oxford dictionary means 'underpants'.
