In yet another attempt to attack the young former Congress leader Alpesh Thakore, the Gujarat Congress Pradesh Committee (GPCC) is all set to file an urgent appeal in Gujarat High Court to disqualify him for 6 years.
This is with respect to the already pending case against Thakore by Congress leader who are accusing him of not following the whip, cross voting in the Rajya Sabha byelections of June 5, 2019 and also are claiming that he should have been disqualified since he was elected on a Congress ticket.
The Congress delegation that had filed an application appealing disqualification of Thakore had also pleaded in front fo the Gujarat High Court to not allow Thakore to vote in By election of Rajya Sabha. Since no decisive order was given at the time, now the leaders are all set to submit an urgent appeal in the matter.
Ashwin Kotwal, who headed the delegation of Congress leaders in filing that application shared with Republic TV, "We had appealed to the honourable court to disallow him in RS elections and it was told to us that the court could not fasten the decision of the Gujarat Assembly Speaker. But now, according to the rules, he should not be allowed to contest in these assembly elections on the BJP ticket. He should be disqualified for 6 years since the whole process of him leaving the party and not resigning as an MLA was not as per the rules." Kotwal was also the observer in the RS byelections in June when Thakore had cross voted.
The leaders say it is also an urgent matter since the last date for filing of nomination is on Monday (September 30). However the BJP has not yet declared Alpesh Thakore as their candidate for Radhanpur seat. "Why is the Congress rushing into pointing fingers. The matter is in court. And we haven't even made any decisions of candidate declarations yet. This shows how nervous the Congress party is about losing in the bypolls," said a BJP spokesperson.
