Criminal complaint filed against Congress’ Urmila Matondkar for allegedly calling Hinduism 'the most violent religion'

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Suresh Nakhua on Saturday files a criminal complaint against actress-turned-politican Urmila Matondkar, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and a television journalist.

"I was watching television on April 5 at 8 PM. I saw well known and celebrated Bollywood actress Ms Urmila Matondakar, make false, mischievious and deceitful comments saying 'Hinduism is the most violent religion in the world', the complaint read.

"The statements made by the accused were highly frivolous and made with the deliberate motive to cause disharmony among the citizens of India following different religions and malign the country at a global level," it read.

In his complaint to the Senior Police Inspector, Nakhua stated: "This has been done in furtherance to a conspiracy and common intention with the Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the accused has recently joined Congress and is the Lok Sabha candidate of the party from Mumbai North constituency. She has intentionally made the malicious, mischievous and calumnious statements on alleged instructions and orders of Rahul Gandhi."

"The anchor of television show allowed Urmila Matondkar to make the false, malicious, mischievous statement and also broadcasted it on the television channel," the complaint further read.

"The religion which has been known for its religion tolerance has turned out to be the most violent religion of them all. What is sad is that this sort of terribly heinous acts have been lauded and are constantly going viral. People are made to believe this is how the society always was," Matondkar reportedly said. 

Nakhua has requested the police to registed FIR against the accused filed the sections of 295A, 505 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Urmila Matondkar joined the Congress party on February 27. She will contest the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North parliamentary constituency. When she joined, Matondkar took to her Twitter handle and wrote: "Thank you @RahulGandhi Ji for a warm welcome I am humbled and charged up about joining a party that believes in the secular fabric of our society, democratic set up of our nation and supremacy of the Indian Constitution which safeguards freedom and equality for all. @INCMumbai" [sic]
