Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Monday chaired a review meeting to check the progress of implementation of Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plans on DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) metro stations. For phase 3 of the metro, the Union Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Planning & Engineering Centre (UTTIPEC) has approved 40 Multi-Modal Integration plans. The DMRC aims to complete the project within six months and will give priority to pedestrian facilities. The models aim at providing a smoother experience for commuters between different modes of transport.
'Ensure seamless travel between various modes of transport'
"Efforts should be made to provide effective engineering solutions to segregate pedestrian and vehicular zones and ensure connected pedestrian paths to ensure seamless travel between various modes of transport,” a press release issued by the Delhi L-G’s office said.
Areas outside metro stations to be pedestrian-friendly
The DMRC told the Governor that 40 plans and revised drawings for the MMI have been submitted for approval before going ahead with the preparation of the detailed drawing for execution. Meanwhile, the governor directed the DMRC to implement MMI plans where priority should be given to pedestrian facilities and reduced dependency on Intermediate Para Transit (IPT) for last-mile connectivity. He also said a priority should be given to using effective engineering solutions to segregate pedestrian and vehicular zones. The DMRC has also been asked to ensure the provision of vehicles, suitable to the neighbourhood, for last-mile connectivity.
"Additional Commissioner (Planning), UTTIPEC also made a detailed presentation on the status of preparation of MMI plans by DMRC for implementation on the ground by various executing agencies before Lt. Governor," said the Governor's Office in a statement.
In the meeting, the Governor also asserted the DMRC to prepare with MMI plans for the remaining Metro stations and start execution of the plans with the consultation of Traffic Police. The meeting was attended by various officials from Traffic Police, Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS), and Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DTIDC).
