The fact that a normal match between India vs Bangladesh has suddenly attracted controversies from all quarters, shows how 'alarming' the pollution levels in New Delhi have been. Several stars from the film industry too have expressed their concern over the situation. While Dia Mirza had shared her disappointment with the Board of Control for Cricket in India over the India vs Bangladesh game being held at this time, Arjun Rampal had also called the air ‘unbreathable’. Someone born and brought in the capital, Swara Bhasker too highlighted the situation in the capital with a ‘midnight walk.’ The actor wrote that her lungs were getting jammed with the smog and pollution and it was difficult to even breathe. However, she showed that even in that situation, she felt it was necessary to post on Instagram, calling herself a ‘narcissist’ for doing so.
Swara Bhasker lives in Mumbai, but recently visited her hometown. Dressed in a red hoodie, the actor went on a ‘midnight walk’, terming the moment as ‘some shady stalker on the streets at midnight’ on her Instagram stories. Posting another snap of the streets, she asked, “Smog hai ki sardi pataa nahin.” (Don’t know if it is smog or the chill)
Later, the Veere Di Wedding star posted another selfie and quipped, “Raat ke dhaii bajey.. sunsaan sadak.. smog aur pradooshan sey phephadey jamm gaye hain.. saans nahi li jaa rahi.. magar.. Instagram upload chaloo hai! 🙄🤓🙈🤷🏾♀️ #vanity #narcissistalert.” (At 2.30 am in the night on the derserted streets, I can’t breathe since my lungs are jammed with the smog and pollution, but Instagram upload was going on).
Other stars fume
Earlier, Dia Mirza had lashed out at the BCCI for hosting the first T20I during this period after the air quality index had reached over 400, considered ‘severe’. “It is baffling that the @BCCI has decided to go ahead with the T20 match despite the AQI’s severe 412! This complete denial of the hazards of exposing ourselves to pollution is what cripples our ability to seek and implement swift solutions. #MyRightToBreathe #BreatheLife," she had tweeted.
"@BCCI please stop hiding your head in the smog. This air harms players and the people that come to watch these games. Accept the #AirQuality is severe. Acknowledge it’s harmful effects. DRIVE ACTION!!! You are so powerful. Use your collective might to HELP. #BeatAirPollution,” Dia wrote.
Meanwhile, Arjun Rampal had tweeted, "Just landed in Delhi, the air here is just unbreathable. Absolutely disgusting what has become of this city. The pollution is visible, dense smog. People wearing masks. How much more disaster does one need to wake up and do the right thing? Tell ourselves we are wrong. #DelhiBachao," he tweeted.
