The District Magistrate of Lucknow Kaushal Raj Sharma has issued a diktat over dress codes for women who visit the historic and religious Imambaras in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The DM has decided to not let women wearing 'indecent' clothes into the Imambaras, a place or a building with a hall where people assemble for "Majlis" (Mourning Congregations) of Imam Husain and Martyrs of Karbala after a meeting with the Shia community.

After a meeting, the DM decided to restrict the entry of women unless they were wearing 'Decent' clothes while visiting the historic Imambaras.

DM Kaushal Sharma said that the visitors will have to wear clothes that cover their body, keeping in mind the sanctity of the historic monument. Professional photography and video shoots were also banned, he added.

"No more short skirts and skimpy tops at Chhota and Bada Imambaras. Visitors will have to wear clothes that cover their body, keeping in mind the sanctity of the over-two-centuries old monuments. Professional photography and video shoots have also been banned," Sharma said.

The DM added that guards and guides have also been instructed to restrict the entry of people dressed improperly and keep a strict vigil to "check obscenity that hurts religious sentiments".

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Husainabad Allied Trust and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The trust manages the two monuments that are declared as protected sites by the ASI.
