Elderly couple fights off armed robbers in Tamil Nadu, chases them away in terrifying encounter

A video of an elderly couple putting up a brave fight against two armed and masked robbers in Tamil Nadu has gone viral on social media. From throwing plastic chair, slippers and everything possible, the couple chased off the burglars.

In a video being widely circulated, Shanmugavel (72-year-old) was casually sitting out in the verandah when suddenly two burglars come from behind and tried to choke him. And seconds later, his 65-year-old wife came running and starts throwing slippers and other stuff on them. Shanmugavel and his wife put up a fight and later the burglars are seen running away.

According to the reports, the police have registered an FIR against the burglars under Section 233 and section 394 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Reports suggest that during the attack, the wife lost her gold chain and got a cut on her right hand. The couple’s son Ashok, said: "Amma [Senthaamarai] has sustained a cut injury on her right hand. She is a courageous woman who took on the armed criminals instantly on seeing Appa [Shanmugavel] being strangled. By God’s grace, nothing untoward happened."
