EU delegation to visit Kashmir; meet PM Modi and NSA Doval in Delhi
Days before official bifurcation of J&K into two union territories, a Kashmir delegation from the European Union (EU) will visit Kashmir and met PM Modi today
Days before official bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, a Kashmir delegation from the European Parliament will visit Kashmir on Tuesday. Sources informed that the 28-member European delegation has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Monday in Delhi. This is the first time that India has allowed an international delegation to visit Kashmir after revocation of Article 370 in August this year.
Congress attempts to internationalise Kashmir
On October 10, Congress's overseas delegation met United Kingdom's Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn over situation in Kashmir. While Corbyn after meeting the Congress delegation said that Pakistan it was 'productive meeting with UK representatives from the Indian Congress Party where we discussed the human rights situation in Kashmir,' Congress took a U-turn. Releasing a statement, it said that Congress' delegation met Corbyn to oppose Kashmir resolution of Labour party and to state that it is India's 'internal matter'.
Jammu and Kashmir situation
With days left for Jammu and Kashmir to be a union territory officially, the Centre has said that the situation after the abrogation of Article 370 is slowly restoring to normal. It has said that people of Kashmir have accepted the decision. While there has been an increase in the vehicular traffic on the road, public transport is still not functional. The communication blockade still prevails in the valley, while landline and postpaid connections have been restored in parts of Kashmir. Schools and universities have reopened, however, there is a lack of attendance, as per reports. However, there has been repeated ceasefire violation by the Pakistani side and the Pakistan army continues to attack civilians along the Line of Control (LoC).
