More than 100 people have been killed over the last four days after a heavy spell of retreating monsoon rains flooded wide areas of north India's Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar states. At least 73 people have died in UP, according to state disaster management department data and at least 29 were killed in Bihar, according to Bihar State Disaster Management Authority.
The NDRF has rescued and evacuated over 4,000 citizens
The National and State Disaster Response Forces (NDRF) has rescued and evacuated thousands of citizens from the flood-affected areas in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, 19 NDRF teams have been sent out for evacuation. Out of the 19 teams, five NDRF teams have been sent to Patna's flood-affected areas.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar calls a meeting
Nitish Kumar on Sunday had requested the Indian Air Force (IAF) for two helicopters for lifting and airdropping food packets and medicines, in the flood-affected areas of the region. Dewatering machines have also been sought by the state to provide relief in the flood-affected areas. Earlier while speaking to media in Patna, the Chief Minister said, "There has been heavy rainfall in some areas since yesterday and water in Ganga River is rising constantly. But there are proper arrangements and administration is at the spot and making all the efforts to help people." On Monday, the Chief Minister also held a high-level meeting.

Bihar's Deputy CM being rescued:
The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Modi was on Monday, September 30, rescued from his residence as he was stranded due to flooding in the area after incessant rains. The NDRF bailed out the Deputy Chief Minister, along with his family, by towing them away on a boat.
