BMC standing committee chief Yashwant Jadhav blames Railways for the bridge collapse, says 'did not get NOC for repair work'
He said, "Railway is responsible for this incident. This bridge is the property of the railway. BMC's responsibility was to maintain this bridge.We had asked the railway to give us NOC for full repairing work but they haven't given us NOC."
"If we had got the NOC the standing committee would have definitely passed the budget to repair this bridge.But we haven't got a NOC. We will are checking who had done the structural audit of the bridge," he added.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve speaking to Republic TV giving recent updates have reassured people to not panic.
He said, "All those who were injured have been shifted to the hospital, no one is trapped now. The injured are at the hospital and they are being treated. We will open the road tomorrow. There is no need to panic."

Here is all you need to know about the foot overbridge collapse:
- The Mumbai bridge that collapsed at the CST was located just 500 meters from the BMC office.
- As per eyewitness accounts, part of the bridge fell on the cars below.
- 2 NRDF teams of 70 NRDF personnel each have been helping those who are trapped under the debris.
- The BMC last month presented a civic budget of Rs 30,692.59 crore and a massive amount of Rs 11,480.42 crore for improvement of the city's infrastructure including bridges was allocated.
- The bridge collapse today came 8 months after the 40-year-old bridge at the Andheri station had fallen apart and 17 months after the unfortunate Elphinstone Bridge collapse of 2017.
- Last year, it was reported that by April 2018 the BMC would complete the survey of old and new bridges in the city. It was informed that the vulnerable bridges were identified and categorised and they would go under repair works

The chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis assured that an inquiry would be conducted and announced an ex gratia of 5 lakh rupees to the deceased and 50 thousand to the injured.
He said, "This is a serious and sad incident. 1980 this bridge came into being, and last year when there was an accident a structural audit was done. There were only minor repairs to be done. We will do an inquiry. We are with the families of the dead an ex gratia of 5 lakhs will be given to the dead and 50 thousand to the injured."

Reports now claiming that approximately 60% of the bridge has collapsed. The bridge which collapsed near CST was under repair, rescue operations are underway.
Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot.
IG Traffic Amitesh Kumar said, "Traffic has been diverted. Mumbai bridge is at the spot. We are trying to remove the debris."
108 ambulances are reaching the spot and four ambulances are already at the spot.

Speaking to Republic TV BMC Councillor Rais Shaikh accepted the responsibility for the collapse of the bridge.
He said, "Everyone is responsible for the collapse, it is a clear case of negligence by the engineers. We accept responsibility for the bridge collapse. Repairs of the bridge did not happen in time, we have to take responsibility"
He further affirmed that the responsible person will be held and brought to book.

A foot-over bridge outside CST railway station in Mumbai has collapsed. As per reports, several are known to be injured.
A part of the foot-over bridge known as the Himalaya Bridge collapsed opposite the MRA Police station.
According to Mumbai Police, the bridge connecting platform 1 North-end with B T Lane near a newspaper office has collapsed. Injured people are being shifted to the hospital.
Mumbai Police have adviced commuters to use alternate routes.
