BJP leader and Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday, October 29, stated that the Indian National Congress (INC) has become accustomed of supporting and conducting Yatras in the name of former INC former President Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the current general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
'Congress is obligated to Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi'
Union Minister Reddy taking shots at the INC stated that the members of the party get “dejected” if they have to participate in processions of great leaders such as the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi. Reddy during a Gandhi Sankalp Yatra at Secunderabad stated, “Congress is obligated to Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi but not Mahatma Gandhi. If we start any procession for Mahatma Gandhi, they (Congress) get dejected because what all they want is Priyanka and Rahul.”
The Union Minister said that the INC workers have become accustomed of only supporting and conducting Yatras in the name of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi. "We, however, work for the country and are connected to ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi," Reddy said. The Union Minister along with his fellow party leaders and workers on October 26, to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, participated in a 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra' in Hyderabad. The event was aimed at promoting the Mahatma's ideals like non-violence and cleanliness. It also focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic.
'We aspire to build a 'New India'
Speaking to media, the Union Minister said, "We aspire to build a 'New India'. Under PM Modi's Gandhi Sankalp Yatra initiative, the BJP wants to propagate Mahatma Gandhi's ideology and his principles of non-violence, Swaraj and simplicity among the people of the country." The Union Minister also urged people to shun single-use plastic citing its harmful effects. The party workers from across the country are expected to travel 150 kilometres till October 31 to spread the values of the Mahatama to the people.
