Gandhi Sankalp Yatra: MoS G Kishan Reddy aspires to build 'New India'
Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy participated in a 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra' in Hyderabad to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi
To celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, along with his fellow party leaders and workers, participated in a 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra' in Hyderabad on Saturday. The event was aimed at promoting the Mahatma's ideals like non-violence and cleanliness. It also focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic.
Propagating Gandhiji's ideals
Speaking to media, the Union Minister said, "We aspire to build a 'New India'. Under PM Modi's Gandhi Sankalp Yatra initiative, the BJP wants to propagate Mahatma Gandhi's ideology and his principles of non-violence, Swaraj and simplicity among the people of the country." The Union Minister also urged people to shun single-use plastic citing its harmful effects.
The party workers from across the country are expected to travel 150 kilometres till October 31 to spread the values of the Mahatama to the people.
'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra' in West Bengal
Last week, West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai participated in the party's 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra' in Belgharia of North 24 Parganas district. The party had organised a 6,500 km long yatra across the state from October 15 to 26.
'A journey of 6,500 km on foot'
Before the launch of the yatra, Dilip Ghosh had said, "This year, we are celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. In every Lok Sabha constituency, BJP MPs, MLA, and leaders will walk 15 kilometres each day between October 15 to October 26. At the end of the day, public rallies will be organised. Our workers will undertake the journey of 6,500 km on foot."
Bollywood marked 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi
On Saturday, in an event organised at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with B-town celebs marked the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event was attended by the members of the Indian film and entertainment industry including Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Kangana Ranaut, Anand L Rai, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Sonam Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Sonu Nigam, and Ekta Kapoor. In an interactive session, Prime Minister thanked the creative heads and contributors for taking time out of their busy schedule to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, at his personal request.
