Girish Chandra Murmu appointed first Lieutenant Governor of J&K
As Satya Pal Malik will take charge of the Governor of Goa, Girish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir
As Satya Pal Malik will take charge of the Governor position of Goa, Girish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Served as the principal secretary to the then CM of Gujarat Narendra Modi, Girish Chandra Murmu was an Indian Administrative Services Officer of the Gujarat cadre. During his service in Gujarat, he held key administrative operations in the state and currently, he is the Secretary in the department of expenditure at the Ministry of Finance.
To take charge on October 31
The speculations of Satya Pal Malik becoming the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir were floating till the time it was revealed that Girish Chandra Murmu will take the charge. The State of Jammu and Kashmir will be transitioning into two Union Territories by October 31 and that is when Girish Chandra Murmu will take to the office. The two new Union Territories will be known as Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, where Jammu and Kashmir will have its own assembly constituency.
Notification by President of India
- Shri Satya Pal Malik, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir is transferred and appointed as Governor of Goa;
- Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai as Governor of Mizoram;
- Shri Girish Chandra Murmu as Lieutenant Governor of Jammu-Kashmir;
- Shri Radha Krishna Mathur as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh
Provisions for government employees in 2 UTs
As per an announcement made by the Home Ministry, “The financial facilities being given to the employees of other Union Territories (UT), as per the recommendations of 7th CPC, would soon be extended to the employees of UT of Jammu and Kashmir and UT of Ladakh. Accordingly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the proposal of payment of all 7th CPC allowances to the Government employees of UT of Jammu & Kashmir and UT of Ladakh, which shall come into existence from October 31, 2019. Union Home Ministry has issued orders in this regard. The move will benefit 4.5 lakh Government employees, who are working in the existing State of Jammu & Kashmir and will become the employees of UT of Jammu & Kashmir and UT of Ladakh from October 31, 2019. The annual financial implication of 7th CPC allowances like Children Education Allowance, Hostel Allowance, Transport Allowance, LTC, Fixed Medical Allowance, etc.
