Addressing the convocation ceremony of the Mata Vaishno Devi University in Katra on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Governor Satya Pal Malik stated in a light-hearted manner that the position of a Governor was “weak” and he did not have the “authority” to hold press conferences or speak his heart out. Malik also accused the intelligence agencies of not telling the truth to the Centre and the state administration. Furthermore, he spoke about his candid interaction with many students in the state.
Malik said, "The position of a Governor is weak. This poor thing does not have the authority to hold press conferences or speak our hearts out. For three days, I remained anxious wondering whether my comments have not annoyed anyone in Delhi.”
The J&K Governor added, "After coming here, I didn't take input from intelligence units. They don't tell truth to Delhi or us. I spoke to 150-200 students and asked which students stand up for the National Anthem. They said the whole problem is of people between 13 to 30 years whose dreams have been broken and who have been misled and incited. They said we don't want Hurriyat, mainstream parties, Delhi government or autonomy. I was also told that the way to 'Jannat' (paradise) is by getting killed.”
'Crushed the dreams of the youths'
Maintaining that the mainstream leaders of J&K had pushed the youth towards militancy, the J&K Governor alleged that they conveniently kept their own children away from this mess.
“Politicians, bureaucrats, affluent and powerful have crushed the dreams of the youths and destroyed their lives. The society leaders, religious preachers, Moulvis, Hurriyat and mainstream parties have used their influence to get the children of ordinary Kashmiris killed. None of them have lost their own child and nobody from their families joined terrorism," he remarked.
