On September 12, Gautam Budh Nagar administration signed a memorandum with Korea based tech giant Samsung to execute afforestation on a large scale in the Dadri region. According to the announcement made by the officials, 71,000 sq metres land in Greater Noida will be covered with two-lakh plants with the help of miyawaki Japanese technique. The project aims to develop the biggest and dense miyawaki forest in the area. The District Magistrate Brajesh Narain Singh told reporters that, "As per the MoU, Samsung, which already has its biggest mobile factory in Noida, will develop the forest and take care of the plants, trees for a period of 10 years."
Miyawaki technique
Kerala too used the help of the miyawaki technique to grow forests, this technique originated in Japan. The technique aims at building native and dense forests. The technique enhances the plant growth and plant density in the area. It ensures that the plant grows 10 times faster and increases the density by 30 times more than the usual. The technique has helped in enhancing the forest cover.
Samsung to build the biggest forest as CSR
The agreement has been made with Samsung as a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility. The company has agreed to make all the required arrangements to make the project a success. The company will be responsible for clearing the land and perform the plantation. The District Magistrate made it clear that the company cannot put the land on lease and will not strive to attain the ownership of the property in any way. Singh told reporters that, “The work will be done as part of the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) work and the agreement also makes it clear that the land will not be leased to them or they will not have ownership of the property of any kind,".
Miyawaki technique a success
Singh also said that the miyawaki technique was previously experimented at the collectorate in Greater Noida on an area of 3,500 sq metres and the results were suitable to take the technique further. With the collaboration with Samsung, the administration decided to perform the technique on 71,000-sq metre dense forests. Singh said, “By what we understand, this is going to be the biggest miyawaki forest in the country," According to the statistics, Gautam Buddh Nagar covers approximately 1.5 per cent of the forest cover. This number does not meet the ideal requirement of 33 per cent. Therefore the administration has decided to take the initiative and convert as much as 250 acres of land into the forest in 2019. This will increase the land cover in the area. The Managing Director, Samsung Noida, MS Chang also confirmed continuous support to build the biggest miyawaki forest in the area.
