This Navratri, an innovative idea that a Vadodra based designer has come up with to make the festival more special, is to tailor special Garba dresses on the theme of abrogation of Article 370 and ensuing nullification of 35 A in Jammu and Kashmir.

The famous designer Rahul Thakkar

The designer Rahul Thakkar is famous for coming up with innovative ideas and themes every year. This year, after picking the Kashmir issue as the theme, he designed a Kurta for men with the text 'RIP Article 370, 35A' written in the top right corner. Additionally, for women, he designed a special lehenga with the same text.

Along with this, the spirit of Navratri finds a place in his work. In addition to the theme-related text, he also added a lot of floral designs and vibrant colours to add to the festive energies. While talking about the feedback that he’s receiving about the idea, he said that the clients are taking the theme very positively and are excited to voice their support for Centre's move by wearing these dresses.

'Clients are loving it'

He said, "My clients are in love with this thought of mine. They are feeling that this is something unique and different from what they had been wearing in the past. Some of my customers were so excited to see the designer clothes as they also wanted to spread the message that they are also supporting this in the Garba crowd.”

The ongoing festival of Navratri which witnesses celebrations in form 'Dandiya and Garba' events in Gujarat are seeing youngsters flaunting their love and support for article 370 abrogation in different ways. In addition to Garba costumes, Gujarat youth have also taken up the idea of social issues themed body tattoos. As a part of Navratri celebrations, many youth were spotted visiting tattoo studios to get themselves painted with tattoos on social issues such as article 370 or major happenings around the globe like Chandrayaan-2. The tattoos too have become a means for voicing support.
