Gujarat's COVID-19 cases cross 1.04 lakh; 14 die
Gujarat on Sunday reported the highest single-day spike of 1,335 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections in the state to 1,04,341, health department said.

The cumulative death toll went up to 3,108 with 14 people succumbing to the infection, including five in Surat, it said. A total of 1,212 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 84,758, the department said in a release.
With this, the state's recovery rate now stands at 81. A total of 72,561 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, which comes at the rate of 1,116.32 tests per day per million population.
Out of 14 fatalities, five patients died in Surat and three in Ahmedabad. One death each occurred in Gandhinagar, Gir Somnath, Kutch, Morbi, Rajkot, and Vadodara, the department said. At 295, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad with 173 patients, it said.
Rajkot, Vadodara and Jamnagar districts also reported more than 100 new cases, the department said. While Rajkot added 151 cases to its tally, the number of infections in Vadodara and Jamnagar rose by 127 and 106, respectively, it said.
Elsewhere in the state, Bhavnagar reported 49 new cases, Gandhinagar 41, Amreli 23, Anand 14, Banaskantha 12, Bharuch 22, Dahod 17, Devbhumi Dwarka 12, Gir Somnath 15, Kutch and Mensaha 29 each, Panchmahal 31, Patan 17, Sabarkantha 15, and Surendranagar 21 cases etc. The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 16,475.
The state conducted 27,80,681 tests so far, it said.
