Here's all you need to know about the 7 Indian Air Force assets used to destroy terror camps across the LoC

The Indian Air Force conducted a strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terror camps in Balakot, Muzaffarabad, Chakothi across the LoC in Pakistan killing, as per sources, at least 325 foot soldiers and terrorists on February 26. The pre-emptive 21-minute attack using 12 Mirage 2000 fighters comes just 12 days after the Pulwama terror attack.

The Indian Air Force conducted a strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terror camps in Balakot, Muzaffarabad, Chakothi across the LoC in Pakistan killing, as per sources, at least 245 foot soldiers and terrorists on February 26. The pre-emptive 21-minute attack using 12 Mirage 2000 fighters comes just 12 days after the Pulwama terror attack. 

Here are the assets used by the IAF that destroyed the terror camps:

AIR ASSET 1

Mirage-2000 fighter jets:

12 Indian Air Force Mirage-2000 fighter jets. It is multirole fighter jet built by Dassault aviation and acquired in the 1980s.  It is the same jet that hit Pakistan during Kargil war.

AIR ASSET 2

MBDA BGL 1000 laser-guided bomb:

The guidance system allowed for the in-flight target illumination by the aircraft-mounted ATLIS 2 (Automatic Tracking Laser Illumination System) or with ground-based laser designator targeting pod.

AIR ASSET 3

The IAI Heron - Machatz-1 - Heron drone from secret airfield conducted real-time surveillance along LoC

Its a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). developed by Malat (UAV) division of Israel Aerospace Industries. It is capable of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) operations of up to 52 hours' duration at up to 10.5 km (35,000 ft).

AIR ASSET 4

Embraer 145 Netra:

The AEWS&CS was developed by the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) headed by woman scientist J Manjula. Netra has the capability to detect hostile missiles and jets at land, sea and air within the range of 200 kms. It is mounted on a Brazilian Embraer-145 jet.

AIR ASSET 5

IL-78 Refueller aircraft - It took off from Agra for midair refuelling assistance. 

The four engine Russian IAF's six IL-78 aircraft are based out of Agra and meant to support combat assets in operations against Pakistan. 

AIR ASSET 6

Su 30 MKI - Took off from Sirsa airbase to tackle any eventuality

The Sukhoi Su-30MKI is a twin-jet multi-role air superiority aircraft developed by Russia's Sukhoi and built under licence by India's Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. It was indigineously overhauled in 2018 and handed over to the IAF.

AIR ASSET 7

Pechora missiles:

The Russian made Pechora is a surface-to-air anti-aircraft short range missile system designed for destruction of enemy aircraft, missiles and other low and medium range targets. Pechora has an effective range of 32 Kms.
