A Hyderabad-based company Genomelabs Bio Private Limited has launched cups which can be eaten after consuming cold or hot beverages. This has been done with an aim to address the growing demand for environment-friendly products to serve food products and beverages. According to the manufacturer, the product named ‘Eat Cup’ is suitable for a variety of items such as soups, desserts, yoghurt, etc. It has been claimed that these items can stay crispy without getting soggy for up to 40 minutes.
Suresh Raju, a senior official of the company said, “Eat Cup is made from natural grain products and is completely edible, crunchy and delicious to taste. Rich in fibre, it is also a good dietary supplement. You can eat the cup after finishing the beverage.”
'A viable alternative'
This product has been made from natural grains and thus, is completely edible. The company’s objective in launching the ‘Eat Cup’ is to reduce the usage of other disposable alternatives, that require the cutting of trees and are harmful to the human body. As no artificial lining or coating is used, the taste of the contents is not altered. The executive director of the company, Ashok Kumar opined that this was a step forward to reduce the negative ecological impact and massive carbon footprint.
He said, "Eat Cup is made from natural grain products and presents a viable alternative to both plastic and paper cups, and is a step forward in reducing their negative ecological impact and massive carbon footprint."
Indigenous manufacturing to commence soon
Currently, the ‘Eat Cup’ will be imported through the European based manufacturing partner of Genomelabs, which deals with nutrition, fitness, wellness and lifestyle products. Raju stated that their own production would commence at a 9-acre site in Shamirpet within the next 9 to 10 months. The manufacturing plant would have a capacity of 10 lakh cups per day. The permission has been sought from the government in this regard.
