A Guwahati-bound flight from Hyderabad made an emergency landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Sunday after a passenger allegedly indulged in unruly behavior on board.

The IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Guwahati landed in Bhubaneswar after it was diverted under the emergency protocol. The 20-year-old  Irshad Ali  was deplaned and handed over to the airport police, officials at the airport said.

The passengers on board were scared after the man created a ruckus and even tried to open a door of the aircraft, a police officer said, adding, the man had violated safety norms despite repeated warnings. It was reported that he started yelling, standing on the seat and disobeying instructions of the crew.

The departure was delayed on Friday night when a passenger erroneously opened the emergency exit causing the emergency chute to activate. As per standard operating procedure, the PIA had to offload nearly 40 passengers and their luggage. They will be adjusted on the next available flight,” he said.

According to the reports, the spokesperson had also informed that passengers were provided with transportation and hotel accommodation and investigation into this episode was also conducted.
