IMD Predicts heavy rainfall over Lakshadweep, Puducherry, & Tamil Nadu

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall for isolated places over Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on Wednesday. Heavy Rainfall for Kerala, Karaikal, and Mahe is also predicted. "Heavy Rainfall at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana and Coastal, and South Interior Karnataka," IMD stated in its warning Bulletin.

Thunderstorms over west-coast predicted

IMD has also predicted thunderstorms with fast winds over Vidharbha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Konkan regions. The agency said the sea conditions over the west-central and east-central are predicted to be rough over Southeast Arabian Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. "Under the influence of system over Comorin area and adjoining Equitorial India Ocean, heavy to very rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and heavy rainfall over Rayalseema and Karnataka up to October 31," the statement added.

Cyclone KYARR to re-curve west-southwestwards

The agency also predicted the cyclonic winds of Cyclone KYARR has moved north-westwards and will re-curve west-southwestwards and move towards the Gulf of Aden off south Oman-Yemen coasts in the next three days. "It is very likely to weaken into a very severe Cyclonic Storm during the morning of October 30 and further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm the morning of October 31," it stated. "The low-pressure areas now lie over Lakshadweep-Maldives areas and the adjoining common area with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric levels."

Preparations for Search and Rescue operations underway

The IMD also advised Fishermen not to venture into the sea near the Bay of Bengal from October 20 to October 31. The Indian Coast Guard has also undertaken all preparations of Search and Rescue. The Coast Guard has deployed 4 of its Dornier aircraft at the Coast Guard Air Enclave. It has also positioned 10 ships and 2 Chetak helicopters to carry out necessary SAR operations.
