Independence Day: PM Modi's push against single-use plastic excites Varun Dhawan, Aaditya Thackeray
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pitch in his Independence Day speech against single-use plastic excited Varun Dhawan and Aditya Thackeray. The duo felt the initiative could make a massive difference.
The ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ will always be known as not just Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popular initiative, but one of the first he took up after taking charge in 2014. PM Modi, in his maiden address to the nation on Independence Day in 2014, had urged the citizens to build a clean India, after which the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ took on in a big way. Exactly five years later, cleanliness was one of the areas that the Prime Minister threw light on, this time specifying plastic. PM Modi’s message to fight against single-use plastic, got the thumbs up from celebrities like Varun Dhawan, Aditya Thackeray.
Varun termed PM’s initiative as the ‘biggest service’ this generation could have done, while stating that the environment's safety is the need of the hour.
Shiv Sena Youth Wing President Aditya Thackeray termed it as a ‘huge thing’, while highlighting his own efforts, meeting with the then Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan in 2017. He felt the nationwide ban could turn out to be a success.
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja also lauded Thackeray for his efforts that had borne fruit, writing, “Amazing job Aaditya.”
PM in his Independence Day address, had said, "Can we free India from single-use plastic? The time for implementing such an idea has come. May teams be mobilised to work in this direction. Let a significant step be made on 2nd October," the Prime Minister said.
