Indian Army celebrates Navratri festival with garba performance

On the occasion of Navaratri all around the country, people are enjoying traditional food, music and dance. On Monday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh shared a video on his Twitter handle of Indian soldiers playing Garba in sub-zero degree temperatures. Referring to the soldiers, in his tweet, Jitendra Singh said declared he was proud of the Indian Army and their spirit is what makes India invincible.

'Invincible India'

In a similar occurrence earlier, business tycoon Anand Mahindra, took to Twitter on October 6, where he shared a video of Indian Army soldiers doing the Garba to a Gujarati song. While the video was months old, he extended salutations to the army soldiers doing the Garba. "No need to ask how the Josh is!" he said sharing the video.

On Friday, people in Surat began celebrating Navratri by performing Garba Raas in a unique way — by wearing a mask of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Similarly, another video surfaced this Navratri that showed a group of people performing Garba in the middle of the Ahmedabad airport at 3 am. What was unique about it was passengers as well as the airport staff were seen joining in on the fun and performing Garba.

What is Navratri?

Navratri, which means ‘Nine-nights’ in Sanskrit, is a nine-day festival that is famous in various parts of India and is celebrated by Hindus all over the country. It is celebrated with great energy and enthusiasm and is a colourful festival in which nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped.

There are four types of Navratri that take place in a year. However, out of these four Navratris in a year, only two- namely Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri are celebrated widely. People in different parts of the country celebrate this festival according to their customs. The festival, apart from its energetic celebrations, is also famous for the fasts that people observe as a measure of good luck and health.
