Indian Navy ships INS Sahyadri and INS Kiltan entered Yokosuka Port in Japan on Monday, October 14. The ships were welcomed by RAdm T Madono, Chief of Staff, Yokosuka district. The ships were scheduled to participate in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Fleet Review which has since been cancelled due to Super Typhoon Hagibis, the Spokesperson of Indian Navy said on Twitter.

Indian Navy ready to provide help
As requested by Prime Minister Modi on Sunday, the India Navy deployed INS Sahyadri and INS Kiltan in the area, ready to render assistance as Japan fights the devastation and damage caused by Typhoon Hagibis.

PM Modi extends support to Japan
As the death toll due to Typhoon Hagibis reached 18, PM Modi on Sunday took to Twitter to express his condolences to Japan. He tweeted in Japanese hoping for an early recovery from the mass havoc caused by the storms. He also expressed confidence in President Shinzo Abe's preparation in countering the disaster. He also extended the Indian Navy's assistance to provide the necessary support to Japan.

Typhoon Hagibis hits Japan
Meanwhile, Japan is still coping from the most powerful typhoon 'Hagibis' hitting the island country on Saturday. Japan’s public broadcaster NHK revealed on Sunday that at least seven people had been killed, while more than 15 are reported to be missing. Tokyo has been reportedly paralysed with significant flooding and nearly 4,25,000 homes are without electricity. The deceased individuals lived in the Chiba, Gunma, Kanagawa and Fukushima areas surrounding Tokyo, as per reports.
