All you need to know

The Indian Railways has an easy way of solving PNR queries. IRCTC has recently come up with a new number 139 - Rail Sampark that helps solve queries regarding PNR status, accommodation availability, current train running position, PRS ticket cancellation and fare inquiry. PNR or the Passenger Name Record is a number that contains the personal information of a passenger. It also consists of the itinerary of the passenger or a group of passengers travelling together. This PNR train number helps you check the booking status of your train ticket. It allows you to check whether the ticket has been confirmed, is on the waiting list (WL) or under reservation against cancellation (RAC). The PNR status helps determine whether the booked ticket is CNF, RAC, WL, GNWL, PQWL, RLWL or TQWL. The PNR number of your train ticket can be checked on the official website i.e.: http://www.indianrail.gov.in/enquiry/PNR/PnrEnquiry.html. The PNR number consists of 10 digits out of which the first 3 digits determine the PRS i.e the Passenger Reservation System, from which the ticket has been booked. The first digit of the PNR number specifies the starting zone of the train.

How to check PNR Status?

There are several ways to check your PNR Status. However, you cannot check it by typing your own name on the site. PNR Status can be checked on the IRCTC website or on Paytm or via SMS ‘PNR’ or call to the number 139. The PNR status can be checked on the railway station or using your mobile phone or other websites as well.
