J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. Earlier on Friday, Malik had stated that the Jammu and Kashmir administration will be completely committed in taking all the measures to ensure the best development of the Kargil district, as well as setting up of the Union Territory- Ladakh. An official release said, “Governor's Administration is fully committed to take all measures to ensure the best development of Kargil district in line with the aspirations of the people in the UT Ladakh set up with all safeguards including 100 per cent employment security by taking necessary legal measures besides making all-out efforts for ensuring land safeguards like in other states of the country.”

Maharashtra likely to invest in J&K

The J&K Governor's visit comes on a day that the Maharashtra Cabinet approved a proposal to launch two resorts in the newly-designated Union Territory. The MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation) will start the land survey in J&K in the next 15 days, following which Maharashtra govt will buy the land for the resort. Furthermore, Rs 2 crore provision has been set aside for the resort. If the project materialises, Maharashtra could become the first state to buy land in J&K - something that wasn't possible before Article 370 and Article 35A were abrogated.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Maharashtra Toursim Minister Jaykumar Rawal said that the govt is planning to open a resort near Srinagar and a mountaineering institute near Ladakh.

Normalizing Kashmir Valley

In a briefing held on Monday, J&K Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal stated that over 90% of the Kashmir valley was free of day time restrictions. According to him, the restrictions were eased at 92 police station areas out of the 111 police stations in the State. He further stated that over 26,000 landline connections have also been restored. Apart from this, the performance of government offices and schools is also almost normalized. The schools are slowly seeing a good attendance, he said. Along with this, he noted that the public transport in the Kashmir Valley is coming back to roads and interstate connectivity is now available.
