Pakistan army on Sunday violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) by targetting forward posts and villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district with heavy firing and shelling. An official said that the firing of small arms and shelling with mortars started in Sunderbani and Nowshera in Roujouri District, for the second day in a row. He further stated that there was no immediate report of any casualty.

Pakistan violates ceasefire two days in a row

Pakistan initiated ceasefire violation at about 10 am by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars in Sunderbani and Nowshera sectors. An official also stated that the Indian Army is retaliating. This is the fifth ceasefire violation attempt by Pakistani troops in the past 24 hours. The firing fabricated panic in the border residents as the shelling was so acute, leading to damage in at least one residential house. Pakistan had previously violated he ceasefire fire just a day before, by resorting to motiveless firing in Krishna Ghati in nearby Poonch district. The Indian troops retaliated and the exchange of fire between the two sides continued throughout the day.

The Indian Army Retaliates

The latest round of firing and shelling from Pakistan ended nearly a week-long lull in the shelling along the LoC. An army personnel was killed in the same attack when the Pakistani troops targetted the forward posts and villages in Shahpur-Kerni sector, raising the death toll in ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri since July to eight which included six soldiers and two civilians.

The Pakistani troops have been engaging in continuous ceasefire violations since July in the two districts of Poonch and Rajouri. About seven people, five soldiers, and a 10-day old baby have been killed in these violations since the violations began in July. In an earlier attack from Pakistan on August 15 about three Pakistani Army soldiers were killed because of India's retaliation.
