Jammu and Kashmir to soon have an International Cricket stadium

Jammu and Kashmir to soon have an International Cricket stadium

The state of Jammu and Kashmir will soon have an international cricket stadium that will be equipped with the state of the art facilities so that international tournaments including the Indian Premier League Matches are held in the state. 

The Jammu and Kashmir administration under Governor SP Malik in collaboration with the IPL (Indian Premier League) Governing body with soon develop cricket stadiums in the state that fulfills the standards for holding international tournaments.

“During my recent visit to Srinagar, I met with the Governor and he is very keep to develop sporting infrastructure in the state I promised him our full cooperation and support to promote cricket in the state of Jammu and Kashmir”, Chairman IPL Rajiv Shukla told Republic.

Shukla said that the governor told him that the youth of the state has vast potential but they were lacking avenues to prove the same.

“Governor is keen to promote sports especially cricket in Jammu and Kashmir and I assured him that we will extend every possible help. He said that the youth here has immense potential and needed avenues to channelize the same,” he said.

A spokesman of the Raj Bhawan said that the governor is in touch with Shukla and soon a team from the IPL governing body would visit the state to help the state administration to develop world-class cricketing infrastructure in the state.

“The governor is desirous to have an IPL team for Jammu and Kashmir and we will soon start construction work on our first world-class cricket stadiums where IPL matches and international matches are held in the state”, the spokesman said.

He said that the governor is committed to strengthening the sports infrastructure in the state with the construction of stadiums in all the districts of the state having state of the art facilities.

Welcoming the move former cricketer and member Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association Ranjeet Kalra said that he was hopeful that Jammu and Kashmir will have its own IPL team soon.

“It is really heartening to see that the governor is taking so much of interest in sports especially cricket. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has enormous potential and we are hopeful that with the active support of the new governor and the IPL the dream of the sports lovers in the state to have its own IPL team would soon be fulfilled” Kalra said.

Sports enthusiasts in the state believe that by having world class sporting facilities in the state would help channelize the potential of the youth and would keep them away from the anti-social elements who want to vitiate peace in the state.

“If instead of stones you hand over bat and ball in the hands of the youth, you can clearly see the drop in the incidents of violence, it’s the duty of the government to channelize the potential of the youth towards positive side” Navjoth Kour a cricket lover said.
