JNU concessions announced, VC appeals to students to return to class
JNU VC M Jagadesh Kumar has appealed to the protesting students to resume their academic activities as the IHA Committee made certain changes in hostel charges
After the HRD Ministry announced measures after a massive and continuous protest by JNU students on Wednesday, Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar has appealed to the protesting students to resume their academic activities as the Inter-Hall Administration Committee made certain changes in the structure of hostel charges.
'Protests should not affect academic life of the University'
While speaking to news agency ANI, he said, "We would like to appeal to all the protesting students to resume their academic activities because there are thousands and thousands of other students who would like to continue their academic activities. So these kinds of protests and demonstrations should not affect the academic life of our university, so we hope that with these great concessions that we have given, students will come back to their classes and resume their academic activities."
Fee changes only for EWS students
Explaining all the revised changes by the IHA Committee in the executive council, he said that clause related to the timings in the hostel has been excluded in the hostel manual. He said, "We have several reading rooms in our central library which are open 24/7 and students can study there for late hours and come back to the hostel. So, therefore, we are not going to put this clause related to these timings in the hostel manual. Speaking about the dress code, he said, "Also, there were some suggestions about the dress code, we believe that the students should decide what kind of dress they will have when they come for dining in the dining hall, therefore this clause related to the dress code will also be not part of the new hostel manual."
The executive council also made several changes for the students who belong to the BPL category. Also, One-Time Mess Security charges have not been increased to Rs 12,000 which was recommended and it remains at Rs 5,500. Have a look at all the revised charges for the students:
