Justice Sharma gets designated as Acting CJ of Punjab & Haryana HC
Justice Rajiv Sharma has recently been designated the seat of the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court replacing Justice Krishna Murari.
Justice Rajiv Sharma has recently been designated the seat of the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This act was executed by the President Ram Nath Kovind. This incident occurred as a consequence of the elevation of Chief Justice Krishna Murari as the Judge of Supreme Court. Justice Rajiv Sharma happens to be one of the senior-most judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

'The President is pleased to appoint Justice Rajiv Sharma, the senior-most judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Justice Krishna Murari relinquishes the charge as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court consequent upon his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.' read the notice issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.

Justice Rajiv Sharma is set to replace Justice Murari as he is said to renounce his charge later in the day. Justice Sharma is popularly known for his speedy disposal of cases. He is also gravely concerned for nature and the environment. In the past, Justice Sharma has given out groundbreaking judgements on granting living entity status to the Ganga along with the animal kingdom. He has also delivered crucial judgements on the removal of caste from FIRs, directives for preventing suicides by farmers and abrogating the age-old system of solitary confinement for death penalty convicts.
Rajiv Sharma and his many deliverances
Justice Rajiv Sharma is remarkably illustrious for his struggle against drug menace. He is also known for a series of other judgements on education and mental health. Justice Sharma had also headed a bench that made a crackdown on issues of infiltration in Chandigarh. Rajiv Sharma was appointed as the Additional Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, on April 3, 2007 and was confirmed as permanent Judge on March 31, 2013. He was transferred to the High Court of Uttarakhand following which he was transferred to the High Court of Punjab and Haryana where he took office as Judge on November 13, 2018.
