Former Union Minister P Chidambaram was visited by his son Karti Chidambaram, along with senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel in the Tihar Jail on Wednesday. P Chidambaram has been in judicial custody in Tihar jail since September 5, and recently celebrated his birthday on September 16. After meeting his father at the Tihar, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram spoke to media and said that the former Union Minister is a "strong man" and is in "very good spirits". He also said that P Chidambaram is 'observing what is happening in the country'.
"He is a very strong man, one who is being investigated but one should realise there is no case and trial, no chargesheet as yet. He is being subjected to a condition that perhaps one gets after verdicti in a trial. This is not even a trial, it is pre-trial and this is only the investigation stage," Karti Chidambaram said, as reported by news agency ANI.
P Chidambaram's birthday in Tihar
Arrested by CBI on August 21 for interrogation in the INX Media case, P Chidambaram is in judicial custody in Tihar Jail till September 19. On his 74th birthday, his son Karti penned a letter for him detailing out what he has missed since he was put in judicial custody. Taking a dig at the BJP-led government, Karti said that turning '74 is nothing compared to turning 100 days old'. He also briefed the former Finance Minister about the happening in Kashmir, likening his father's imprisonment to the security lockdown in the Valley.

The 74-year-old Congress leader is facing probe in cases registered by both the CBI and the ED pertaining to alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when he was the union finance minister. From jail, P Chidambaram has been asking his family to tweet on social media on his behalf. Recently, he opined on the ongoing Hindi debate stating that the idea that Hindi alone can unite the people of the country is a dangerous trend.
