As the controversy over the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Hindi Diwas spilled, former chief minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy attacked the government taking the same lines as the Opposition leaders on 'Hindi imposition.' Expressing his disapproval on Twitter, Kumaraswamy said that if no one celebrates Kannada language day why is Centre celebrating the Hindi Diwas when it is not the national language. But all of these languages including Hindi has been given the status of official language. "Today, the central government is celebrating 'Hindi Diwas' across the country. When is Kannada language day celebrated?" he wrote in his tweet.

Home Minister Amit Shah's Hindi Diwas pitch
Home Minister Amit Shah, on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, pitched the idea of ‘one nation, one language’ during a speech in New Delhi. While speaking at Vigyan Bhawan, the BJP president proposed, "Diversity of languages & dialects is a strength of our nation. But there is a need for our nation to have one language so that foreign languages don't find a place. This is why our freedom fighters envisioned Hindi as 'Raj bhasha'.
Owaisi and Opposition targets Shah
All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi slammed Home Minister Amit Shah stating that the idea of India was much bigger than the Hindi language, Hindu religion, and the ideology of Hindutva. Owaisi asserted that Hindi was not the mother tongue of every Indian. He called upon Shah to appreciate the diversity and beauty of all the languages spoken in India. Citing Article 29 of the Indian Constitution, he observed that every Indian had the right to a distinct language, script, and culture.
