Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are likely to limit their campaign run in Maharashtra
A source close to the Congress previously reported that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are likely to limit their campaign run in Maharashtra for the upcoming Assembly Elections. With only days left for the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, reports claim that former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi flew to Bangkok on October 5. However, the reason for his Bangkok trip remains unknown. According to sources from the Congress camp, there are allegations that the Wayanad MP has "abandoned" his responsibilities in the party during the elections. Slamming the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi for leaving the party ahead of the assembly polls, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in an event addressing the Sena workers on October 8, stated the 'Senapati' of the grand old party is gone.
Sonia Gandhi will be campaigning for Congress in Maharashtra
Sources further reveal that current party President Sonia Gandhi will be campaigning for Congress in the Maharashtra and Haryana elections. Reports suggest after the recent All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting, there were speculations that Sonia Gandhi may address two rallies in Haryana and three to four rallies in Maharashtra. Further, she will be addressing one rally with their ally- NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. However, the schedule for the same is yet to be disclosed. Sonia Gandhi came to power as party President after Rahul Gandhi resigned from his post after 19 months of holding the high seat.
Assembly polls are scheduled on October 21
The elections in Maharashtra are scheduled to take place on October 21 with the results being declared on October 24. The BJP is set to contest the elections with Shiv Sena. The INC and the NCP are also going to be contesting in an alliance. While the NCP-INC duo faced a major loss in the General Elections, internal tussle in the BJP-Sena alliance has been reported. With such a political situation in the state, the upcoming assembly election will be a test for both the alliance.
