Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: Nonprofit bodies form Philanthropy Alliance
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,11 non-profit organizations announced on Tuesday to form a new India Philanthropy Alliance.

On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, 11 non-profit organizations announced on Tuesday to come together to form a new India Philanthropy Alliance. The objective of the new alliance is to improve collaboration among various organizations that are working to upgrade India’s growth and development. The announcement was made on October 1 to mark the celebration of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

According to the reports, the organizations that will participate in the formation of the new Alliance include American India Foundation, Arogya World, Akanksha Fund, CRY America, Foundation for Excellence (FFE), Ekal USA, Dasra, Magic Bus USA, Pratham USA, Indiaspora, and VisionSpring. A media release stated that all the non-profit organizations will collectively raise philanthropic donations, which will annually amount to USD 125 million. The amount will be inclusive of more than USD 50 million in the United States. The donations to the Alliance will mostly be made by generous donors including Indian-American entrepreneurs and professionals. The companies working in both the United States and India will also contribute to philanthropic donations. All the 11-organisations have worked in the past for the upliftment of the society. They have together impacted more than 67 million people with various programs that usually span around education, health care, livelihood support, and other essential services.
Launch of the India Philanthropy Alliance
According to the reports, the launch of the India Philanthropy Alliance was pre-decided and the pre-launch activities were executed two years ago. Indiaspora contributed and supported the initiative according to the media release. It was during the Indiaspora Philanthropy Summit that the formation of the India Philanthropy Alliance was announced. It was on the first day of ChaloGive, during the celebration of Indian diaspora philanthropy week, that the foundation for the Alliance was laid. Deepak Raj who is a New Jersey-based entrepreneur and investor said that people are excited about contributing to this new Alliance which is committed to the idea of making a collective impact. He also said that people can contribute their skills, their philanthropic approach and the innovative ideas to help India grow and develop exponentially. The collective effort will help us accomplish more than individual contributions. The chairman of the alliance, Raj who is also heading Pratham USA, a leading education-based non-profit organization in India has achieved to make lives better for more than 50 million children and youth for 25 years. The donors of the non-profit organizations have been looking forward to a big collaboration among the professionals, non-profit organizations to lead India to greater heights. The alliance will strive to achieve the same.
