Manohar Parrikar's memorial foundation to be laid soon confirms Goa CM

Chief Minister of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant announced on Wednesday, that the foundation stone for a memorial dedicated to former Chief Minister of Goa, late Manohar Parrikar would be laid on December 13. Speaking to PTI, Sawant said that "The foundation stone for the 'Smriti Sthal' in the name of Parrikar would be laid at the Miramar beach here in Goa on December 13, the late BJP leader's birth anniversary." Miramar beach also happens to be the place where Parrikar's last rites were performed.

Goa Government will also host a Science Conclave named after former Chief Minister Late Shri Manohar Parrikar.
The architecture of the memorial
The work of the memorial will be executed by The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). Sawant said that the design of a Mumbai based firm UCJ. Architecture and Environment was selected for the memorial. While more details are ascertained, the memorial is likely to project the life of Parrikar. Previously, a memorial was dedicated to the first Chief Minister of Goa, late Dayanand Bandodkar which is already set up at the Miramar beach.
Parrikar's Political Journey
Manohar Parrikar, served four times as Chief Minister of the coastal state and was the Defence Minister in the previous Narendra Modi-led cabinet. He was the leader of the Opposition party from June to November 1999 and was known for his speeches against the then Congress-led government. His rallying point against the then predominant Congress was the issue of illegal mining. He first became the Chief Minister of Goa in 2000 and was the first IITian to head a state. He was in the post for two years. He also served as the CM from 2012 to 2014 and later from March 2017 until his death in March this year.
National Games To Be Held In Goa in 2020
The much-delayed 36th National Games will be staged in Goa from October 20 to November 4 next year, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said here on Saturday. The Indian Olympic Association finalised the dates during its meeting with the Goan delegation on August 31.
