Indian boxer Mary Kom and shuttlers PV Sindhu on Saturday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to empower women in the country. Mary Kom took to Twitter and extolled the initiative stating that it motivates them to work harder.

On Friday, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju said that PM Modi is appealing to everyone to celebrate 'Bharat Ki Laxmi' for the extraordinary success of the women of India.

Acknowledging Rijiju's tweet, 24-year-old ace shuttler Sindhu also thanked Modi for coming up with this initiative to honor and empower women in the country.

'India's Nari Shakti epitomises talent and tenacity'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared the video and said that India’s 'nari shakti' epitomises talent, tenacity, determination and dedication. He also said that Indian ethos has always taught people to strive for women empowerment.

This is not the first time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched such a campaign supporting women empowerment. In 2015, the PM launched 'Selfie with Daughter' where he urged the parents to share pictures with their daughters on social media. He said that the campaign was inspired by a Haryana sarpanch's initiative, which caught his eye. The Prime Minister said that the concept will boost the Centre's 'Beti Bachao' campaign.
