As the nation is basking in the fervour of Durga Puja, a viral video is doing rounds on social media of men playing the dhaak beats on a tabla. The video was recently shared by Facebook user Mayookh Bhaumik. The clip created quite a stir among netizens because instead of the huge membranophone instrument the men recreated the beats using tabla. Dhaak is a traditional instrument used during Durga Puja.
The video shows Mayookh Bhaumik along with three other people skilfully recreating dhaak beats on tabla. "Dhaak beats on the Tabla. Welcoming Ma Durga with the Durga Puja beats from heaven. Hope you guys enjoy this. Have a great Durga Puja my fam..." Mayookh wrote.
Since it was shared, the video has received lots of attention from netizens, clocking more than 1.2 lakh views and amassing over 2,000 shares, and over 200 comments at the time of this publication. Earlier, Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan was spotted at a pandal in Kolkata celebrating the festival. In what may be called the highlight of her celebration, the TMC leader along with her husband, Nikhil Jain played dhak at the Suruchi Sangha pandal of Kolkata. As the MP celebrated the festival in full swing, she was also spotted dancing to the beats of the traditional dhaak.
Durga Puja- the most anticipated festival
Durgoutsav also is known as Durga Puja is a festival that speaks about the triumph of good over evil. For Bengalis across the globe, Durga Puja the most anticipated festival and its preparations begins months in advance. While each day has its own significance, the eighth day or Maha Ashtami is considered the most significant. The mega festival will be celebrated from October 4 to October 8, followed by the grand immersion of the idol. Celebrated for a duration of 10 days, Durga Puja runs parallel with Navratri.
The festival signifies the birth of Durga with the blessings of the gods, to fight the demon king Mahishasura, who was blessed with immortality and could not be killed by any god or man, which is why a goddess had to accomplish the feat. According to folklore, Durga would take different forms to fight the demon, and finally, on the tenth day of Durga Puja, she would kill him, and everyone would bid her farewell.
