Minority Affairs ministry's team to visit Kashmir. Details here
The Minority affairs ministry's team will visit the Kashmir valley to identify the areas where Centrally sponsored schemes could be implemented, Naqvi said.
In a major development, minority affairs ministry's team will visit the Kashmir valley to identify the areas where Centrally sponsored schemes could be implemented. The move comes after abrogation of Article 370 that provided special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to news agency, the minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: "A high-level team of the Ministry, including Secretary, will visit Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Development possibilities like school, colleges, hospital, job etc will be reviewed. Earlier also scholarships were given by our ministry on a large scale but never reached to the people, maybe previous the system was not interested in this" Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi added.
Minority Affairs ministry's plan
The minority affairs team will be in Srinagar on August 27-28, sources informed Republic TV. The plan of the ministry is to also visit Kargil, Leh and Jammu. It will explore areas where development has not reached, the minority affairs minister said. Not just Ministry of Minority Affairs, other ministries will also ensure development in the region, Naqvi added. Narendra Modi led Central government has massive plans for the development of the Kashmir valley, Jammu region as well as Ladhak and Leh areas which were discriminated since so long. Not only our ministry, other ministers will also ensure development in the recently announced UTs and fill the gap of development," he added.
Opposition attacks Government over abrogation of J&K's special status
There has been a communication blackout in the Kashmir valley since 21 days after Centre abrogated Article 370. The security forces and the J&K govt says that to ensure peace, some sort of restraints are necessary. Even as the Centre has made its intention clear, the Opposition continues to attack the govt over Kashmir issue. Attacking the J&K governor Satya Pal Malik, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhury said: "I think the Governor of Jammu & Kashmir should be made the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) President for J&K. I think so because his behaviour as well as his statements are more like that of a BJP leader." He added that the J&K governor invited Rahul Gandhi to the valley and said he will send a plane. "However, when Rahul Gandhi went there he was not allowed. Why are Opposition leaders not allowed. What are they hiding?"
Even as the Centre and the security forces are trying their level best to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, Opposition delegation led by Congress travelled to Srinagar on August 24. The delegation led by Congress comprised of Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, as well as other leaders of Opposition - CPI's D Raja, CPI(M)'s Sitaram Yechury, RJD's Manoj Jha and others. As the leaders boarded the flight to Srinagar, they claimed that they are going to talk to common Kashmiri people. They also said that they want to help restore normalcy in the valley. Questioning the government, they said that if everything is normal in Kashmir why are Opposition leaders not allowed to visit the valley.
Earlier taking to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi had demanded to visit the Valley after abrogation of Article 370. Responding to him, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had offered to send him a 'plane' to visit the state so that he would stop fear mongering over it. In response, Rahul Gandhi explicitly stated that while he won't 'need an aircraft' but 'freedom' should be assured for him to travel and meet mainstream leaders and soldiers deployed in the valley. However, the delegation was sent back from Srinagar even after Rahul Gandhi insisted that he is visiting after J&K governor invited him. The security forces said that to maintain peace it is necessary that situation is not hindered.
Abrogation of Article 370
On August 5, India revoked Article 370 of the Constitution removing special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally it has also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Reacting to India's decision, Pakistan took a number of steps including expulsion of the Indian High Commissioner soon after deciding to downgrade diplomatic ties with New Delhi. India has categorically told the international community that its move to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution is India's internal matter. Despite Pakistan's repeated attempt to internationalise the issue, international community including UN has categorically said that it is a bilateral matter and there is no scope for 'third party mediation'. Moreover, to Pakistan's embarrassment, Imran Khan's minister have been peddling fake news to attract the international forum towards Kashmir issue, but the Indian army has busted their attempts each time.
