The Jal Shakti Ministry on Friday has announced that the Centre will set up a National Water Museum in Delhi. In order to create awareness among the people regarding diminishing water resources and the need for conservation. The Ministry will also set up several satellite museums in different states across the country. Jal Shakti Ministry has taken an initiative to develop National Water Museum to raise awareness among people on the conservation of the natural resource.

Jal Shakti Ministry's statement

"The Ministry has asked the Delhi government to provide us with suitable land for setting up the National Museum in Delhi. We will also be approaching different state government in due course to either set up exclusive satellite museum or spare space in their existing museums to showcase water-related issues," said an official of the Jal Shakti Ministry. The Ministry had organised a two day International Workshop on Friday which will be attended by experts from India and abroad.

During the workshop, possible broad composition, the content of the museum including highlighting importance of water and its current state in different regions of the country, possible solutions, traditional and modern water management practices, and localised success stories were discussed.

National Water Museum

The purpose of the museum is to explain the visitors' importance of conserving water resources and also provide a possible solution, traditional and modern water management practices. "Experts from the Global Network of Water Museums are being consulted for this project," said officials. The Global Network of Water Museum is an organisation that functions under the Unesco's International Hydrological Programme (IHP). The IHP is the intergovernmental programme of the UN system completely devoted to water research, water resources management and education capacity building.
