As per preliminary inputs, she was shot three times by a close aide of hers. She was the first woman president of the UP Bar Council.
As per reports, she was elected president of the Bar council on June 9 at Prayagraj, following which she was attending a welcome ceremony at the Agra court on Wednesday where she was shot inside the court premises.
The police confirmed that the attacker was a close aide of Darvesh Yadav and he shot her with his licensed pistol three times. The police officials also stated that the attacked shot at himself after shooting her in the public place. He was later moved to the hospital.
"She was shot by her aide Manish Sharma who has been working with her since a long time both professionally and politically. She was attending the welcome ceremony at the court. At that time, her aide Manish shot her. The incident took place inside the lawyer's chamber," said Additional SP of Agra Prashant Verma speaking in the matter.
Darvesh Yadav later succumbed to injuries at the hospital where she was taken to after being attacked. Meanwhile, Manish Sharma is undergoing treatment at the hospital after he shot himself.
"Darvesh Yadav was shot dead by her associate Manish Sharma during an event in Agra court premises today. He came and shot 3 bullets at her. She was taken to hospital where she died. Manish is critically injured and admitted to the hospital," said Ajay Anand, ADG, Agra.
The Uttar Pradesh police are carrying out investigation in the case. Further details are awaited.
