Nusrat Jahan celebrates Karwa Chauth with husband Nikhil Jain
MP Nusrat Jahan celebrated her first Karwa Chauth with her husband Nikhil Jain on October 17. She also shared pictures from her celebrations on Instagram.

Trinamool Congress MP and actress Nusrat Jahan celebrated her first Karwa Chauth with her husband Nikhil Jain on October 17. The actress who married Businessman Nikhil Jain on June 19 this year, posted pictures of her celebrating the festival on her Instagram handle.
The controversy surrounding Nusrat Jahan
Ever since Nusrat Jahan was elected as Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha polls, she has been constantly surrounded by controversies. Her marriage with her boyfriend Nikhil Jain in Turkey in June, made the Muslim hardliners speak against her. Later when she took oath into the Parliament wearing a sindoor and bangles, a major controversy broke out and a city-based Muslim cleric criticised Jahan for marrying a Jain and wearing sindoor, calling the practices 'un-Islamic'. Later, she attended Jagannath Rath Yatra at ISKCON temple in Kolkata, creating ripples within the Muslim hardliners. Affirming her stance on religious inclusivity, Jahan had said that all religions speak of unity and peace. She had said that she believes in celebrating all festivals together. She was also recently criticised by the Muslim clerics for participating in the celebrations of Durga Puja.
Bollywood celebrates Karwa Chauth
Bollywood celebrities celebrated Karwa Chauth with a great amount of zest and excitement. Multiple celebrities like Raveena Tandon, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Shilpa Shetty and so on were spotted celebrating the festival. According to reports, Sunita Kapoor, the wife of Anil Kapoor had hosted a special Karwa Chauth party at her Andheri residence in Mumbai. Celebrities including Shilpa Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Neelam Kothari, Padmini Kolhapure and others were spotted at Kapoor's residence. Further, the actresses were joined by their husbands.
About Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth depends on the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Kartik. The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon or 'Purnima'. According to the rituals, married women keep a fast for their husbands. They apply henna on their hands and wear new clothes. Traditionally, along with other women, they narrate folk tales and chant 'Karwa Chauth vrat' stories. Along with this, as per the traditions, Goddess Parvati is worshipped first, followed by Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, and Lord Kartikeya. According to mythology, Goddess Parvati is the wife of Lord Shiva, who is considered as the one whose husband has a long life.
