After the Government launched the Mudra Yojana for small entrepreneurs to get loans without collateral, she applied for a Mudra Loan for her business - which was to supply simple goods and products to government offices. After receiving the loan, she learnt about the Government e-Marketplace (GeM ), and registered on it
In 2017, while browsing the GeM website, she noticed that the Prime Minister's Office was interested in buying a few thermoflasks. She responded to the notification and soon after the PMO confirmed the order. The order was completed with the payment after the delivery.
Through a letter to the PM, Arulmozhi Saravanan shared the story of her development as an entrepreneur. Prime Minister Modi also mentioned her story while addressing the Mann Ki Baat in 2017.
Technological development empowered Arulmozhi Saravanan, a small entrepreneur from Madurai, to come across an opportunity from the Prime Minister's Office. She went onto grew her business by supplying products to various offices.
Writing to PM Modi recently, she spoke about the further developments in her business, and the transformation in her life. She once used firewood for cooking. Now she uses a gas cylinder. The turnover of her enterprise has crossed one crore rupees in the current financial year.
Speaking about her business, Arulmozhi says that her experience using GeM makes her believe that it is a great platform for Government offices to save public money. She describes GeM as a service to the nation adding that for her doing business has become even easier after GST implementation.
From Mudra, to GeM to GST - Arulmozhi is just one illustration of how Government's reforms are working on the ground, to ease the lives of people.
